Chapter Management

If you are considering starting your own chapter, the following bullets will give you an idea of the commitment required. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to ANY of the Board Members listed under our Contact Us tab.

The responsibilities involved in operating a Project Linus Chapter are to:

  • Seek out Community Partners (organizations who will distribute your blankets to the children in need).
  • Recruit volunteer Blanketeers.
  • Ensure that all blankets donated meet our high quality standards.
  • Ensure that a Project Linus Canada blanket label is sewn on each blanket.
  • Ensure that all blankets have been washed using unscented laundry products.
  • Package and label blankets for delivery.
  • Deliver blankets.
  • Keep track of the number of blankets donated to your Chapter and the number of blankets given out.
  • Submit donations to National for tax receipting and submit receipts (if funds are available) for reimbursement of Chapter expenses incurred.

Most children receive a Project Linus blanket from Community Partners, such as hospitals, women’s shelters, funeral homes, Fire Departments, or other such agencies. As a Chapter Coordinator, you may also receive requests for a blanket for a child in crisis from individuals, such as the child’s relatives, friends or neighbours.

A little organization goes a long way. Here are some recommendations that you may wish to consider for your Chapter:

  • Keep track of who you contact and who contacts you.
  • Keep the media apprised of your successes.
  • Set up a Linus Chapter display table at a local craft fair or other event to let the community know of your existence.
  • Encourage and support your Blanketeers by having regular get-togethers.
  • Keep your Blanketeers up-to-date on what’s happening, such as blankets received, deliveries made. An email mailing list works well for this. Include pictures of the blankets so that they can see where their blanket went.
  • Thank your volunteers regularly. Be creative.
  • If Facebook is your thing, create a Chapter Facebook page, and then post to it regularly.
